Tettiera ® was announced the winner of the Artisanal Awards in Food & Beverage Category for 2021 (Premju Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti 2021) with the Tisane Collection of Maltese blends. The award ceremony, held on Friday 8th of July 2022 at Casino Maltese in Valletta was hosted and organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation.
Besides sourcing the highest quality of teas, tea blends, tisanes and botanicals from around the globe, Tettiera ® have been creating Maltese artisanal locally inspired blends ever since its inception in 2016.
“Creating a blend is a complex and laborious manual process. First a deep understanding its objectives is derived based on consumer and market trends. We then look into the concoction of its flavours, taste profiles, well-being benefits associated with each single ingredient as well as their reaction to one another, when blended and brewed” .says Joanna Micallef Farrugia & Diana Mifsud, Directors & Co-Founders of Tettiera ®
Tettiera ® works with a portfolio of over 85 different single ingredients, mainly imported from key estates across the globe, some of which are harvested in Malta. “The Maltese carob is the most popular local ingredient, yet most laborious one used. The carob pods are manually processed through what we call a ‘labour of love’. We select and sanitize each carob pod one by one – without the use of machines. We open and deseed them individually. Then we chop the pods and roast them to a particular temperature. Following the roasting process, the carob pods are then partially grounded to release their natural aromatic chocolatey flavour. Only after this, can it be blended with care in specific quantities together with the other ingredients, until we are happy with the balance and quality of the brew.”, the Founders continue to explain.
The second step is the product presentation. “We go through the vast process of artistically capturing the beauty of the blends through our communication content, which is all done in-house. We discuss and plan the artistic presentation of all our mood shots, props and presentation. Ultimately, we create blends that add value to our consumer’s daily wellbeing. ” Joanna and Diana continue to explain.
The Directors thanked and praised the Malta Crafts Foundation, namely Mr Elton Micallef and Mr Karl Parnis for the level of professionalism as well as the new branding of this prestigious, very well organised event.
Tettiera ®’s collaborative designer, Stephanie Borg®, is another artisanal designer brand. She is the artist behind the exclusive Tettiera tile pattern and packaging artworks which follow the Tettiera® branding vision.
