What is baobab powder?
Baobab is the fruit of the baobab tree, also known as the Adansonia Digitata or baobab tree. The latter name is due to the many species of monkeys that live off the baobab fruit. The tree can become very old and is the largest tree in Africa. Not only the fruit is useful for life in Africa. Almost all parts of the tree are useful, which is why it is popularly called the “Tree of Life”. A nice example is that it uses its trunk as a water reservoir. During the rainy season, the baobab provides sufficient reserves so that it can survive the dry periods. The tribe is then used by the population as a shop, a stable for cattle or a bus shelter. The fruit has a very high content of antioxidants. Baobab powder is an excellent source of vitamin C. After the fruit is processed into powder, it consists of approximately 50% fibre (pectin) which acts as a prebiotic.
