A bright and fruity Ceylon blended with the earthy and aromatic sweet flavours of the Maltese carob. East meets west with success. Add milk or Maltese honey for extra indulgence.
From: 13.95

Tgħanniqa is a unique Maltese tea blend with carob pods blended with a strong Ceylon black tea. Carob comes from a sweet evergreen tree that is grown heavily in the Maltese country roads and other Mediterranean countries.

Our Maltese generations of old used carob as a healthy beverage to boost their immune system, sooth sore throats and coughs on a rainy day and aid digestion.

Carobs were a staple diet with early civilizations, with archeological findings indicating that  early Egyptians used carobs as a natural sweetener.

Carobs have also been called St. John’s bread or locust bean because the pods were once thought to have been the “locusts” that were eaten by John the Baptist in the Wilderness.

That story was apparently wrong, as the prophet actually ate migratory locust.

It is also hinted that early jewellers and goldsmiths in the Middle East used to weigh gold and gemstones against the seeds of the carob tree.

A Carob pod takes between 11 to 12 months to develop and ripen. By then the seeds are bursting with complex sweet and aromatic flavours that provide  a hint of chocolate and earthy root herbs. Characterised by a rich, deep red colour, this special tea blend provides a delicate balance of  sweet and savoury indulgence all in one steamy cup.

A fresh, crisp green tea paired with sweetly tart red raspberry. A tempting cup made in heaven!
From: 11.95

Tempting Raspberry  is a blend of fresh, crisp green tea from China with sweetly tart red raspberry flavour.  The genus Raspberry consists of over 200 distinct species, however, only two of these are presently cultivated. The first mention of raspberry comes from the people of Troy (Helen perhaps?), located in modern-day Turkey. Its original name was ‘ida’ – a reference to the mountain on which it was first spotted. The medicinal properties believed to cluster in its leaves were of more interest to its early users than the sweet, red fruit. Today, you can find red raspberries, as well as black, purple and golden.

Indian chai meets South African rooibos. An explosion of masala spices with a decisive sweet-tangy flavour. With the added vanilla, this is truly a hearty cuppa.
From: 12.95

Historically, tea in India was viewed as a herbal medicine, rather than as a beverage for taste. Some chai spice blends still in current use are derived from Ayurvedic medical texts. Popular spices include anise, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, peppercorn and ginger. Traditional preparation actually calls for the spices, milk and leaves to be simmered over sustained heat, rather than steeped in preheated. In India, chai is served in little clay cups from chai carts. After enjoying your tea, the cups are shattered on the ground and allowed to compost – an earth-friendly alternative to paper or plastic cups.

From: 12.95

The story goes that in 1830, Charles Earl Grey, an English diplomat  travelled  to China, and as a reward for his act of kindness, a local man presented him with the recipe for making this distinctive tea. As inspiring as it may sound, the story is factually incorrect. Chinese have never been black tea drinkers, and so it was very unlikely that they had  a tea recipe for Earl Grey to bestow on visitors. Also, Charles Earl Grey never set foot in China.

The name Chamomile comes from the Greek word meaning ‘ground apple’. Its history dates back at least to ancient Egypt, where Chamomile tea was prescribed as a cold remedy. The Romans enjoyed it as a beverage, as well as an incense. Ironically, the name ‘Roman Chamomile’ by which it is sometimes known, does not stem from this time. It rather comes from an arbitrary naming of the herb in the 19th Century by a botanist who happened to find some growing in the Roman Coliseum.

Our Chamomile tea is made of the finest chamomile flowers from the Nile River Valley in Egypt. Considered a remedy for all ills by the ancient Egyptians, this golden herb remains a modern favourite to promote calm and relieve anxiety.

The exotic lushness of ripened mangoes mixed with the natural goodness of green tea. Happiness in a cup!
From: 11.95

The origins of our Mango Twist tea reside in a Hindu legend, where a mango tree grew from the ashes of the sun princess, who had been incinerated by an evil sorceress. When the ripened mango fell to the ground, the beautiful princess emerged again.

Mangoes originated in Southeast Asia, where they had been cultivated for over 4,000 years. Since their discovery, mango groves have spread to many parts of the world, though mostly the tropical and sub-tropical climates. There are over 1,000 different varieties of the mango plant in existence, and India alone produces half of the world’s supply. Mangoes are used widely in the culinary world, from sweet sticky rice, to delicate chutneys, to spicy and savoury pickles. It’s also an important part of non-food life in several cultures; both the fruit and leaves are used for decoration, religious ceremonies and weddings.

A delightfully bright morning cup with citrusy Ceylon tea coupled with the malty underscore of a piquant Assam. A seamless marriage! Serve with milk or lemon.
From: 11.95

Our Morning Tune Blend is made up of two very popular black teas: Assam and Ceylon. Assam is the world’s largest tea-growing region, lying on either side of the Brahmaputra River, and bordering Bangladesh and Burma (Myanmar). Assam has a tropical climate, heavily influenced by the monsoons and without the normal hot and dry season found in the rest of India. In the warmest month, the temperature is around 30ºC, while in January, roughly 15ºC is the norm. The most prised Assams are the second flush teas, coming right before the monsoons, with a rich, spicy and malty flavour.

Teas harvested during and right after the rainy season tend to be softer and more floral in character.

The tiny island of Sri Lanka is the world’s third largest producer of tea, due in part to the fact that tea can be harvested year-round here. The island is blessed with perfect trade winds and striking geography, creating unique micro-climates favourable to tea production. Tea flavour is very much tied to the altitude where it grows here: low, medium or high, each with its own sought-after character. Low-grown teas are hearty, tangy and very rich in taste. High-grown teas are much lighter bodied, but are more aromatic and sweet. Mid-grown are a combination of the two, depending on exact conditions. Medium to full body with noticeable unique aromatics.

Our earthy rooibos is complimented perfectly with the rich, warm and soothing vanilla fragrance. Comforting indeed!
From: 12.95

South African Rooibos requires solid soil preparation, good plant material, rainfall, and ability to make a good quality Rooibos based on harvesting skills and traditions. Rooibos tea is well known for a number of benefits namely to aid nagging headaches, insomnia, asthma, eczema, bone weakness, hypertension, allergies, and premature aging.

The story of vanilla begins with the Totonaco Indians of Mexico, who were the first to unearth its secret. They fell to the Aztecs, who were in turn soon conquered by the Spaniards, under the leadership of Harnando Cortez. Cortez brought his precious plunder, including a few beans of vanilla, back to Spain. Vanilla beans are the fruit of an orchid, which blooms for only one day each year. Because of this, and also because the flowers must be hand-pollinated, vanilla is the second most expensive spice on earth, after saffron.

Ceylon tea infused with dark chocolate chips creating the ultimate delicious decadence. Need we say more?
From: 12.95

Our Ceylon Chocolate Charm tea has a dense and soft chocolate flavour. Clean, slightly tangy finish brings you back to tea, and the balanced astringency compliments the dark chocolate nicely.

The story of chocolate begins with Columbus’ discovery of America. Cocoa beans were among the curiosities he brought back from his voyage. However, it wasn’t until the conquest of Mexico that the Spaniards learned of ‘chocolatl’, a drink made from cocoa beans that the Aztecs served Cortez and his troops. The Spaniards found the drink bitter. Luckily, the New World was also a source of cane sugar. Combining the two, and bringing the recipe to Spain, proved a booming business. The Spanish managed to keep it a secret for nearly a hundred years.

This naturally quiet tea is made up of young and delicate tea leaf buds enhanced with the graceful scent of jasmine flowers. Paired together for several nights until the perfect balance is created.
From: 16.95

Jasmine Silver Needle white tea is made up of young and elegant tea leaf buds with a whisper of jasmine aura.

Jasmine tea production is a two-step process. The tea is harvested and finished in the spring, then carefully stored until the summer, when the jasmine starts to bloom at night. Each evening, the tea is carefully layered with fresh blooms, which will open and give their scent to the tea. In the morning, the flowers are removed and the process is repeated again that evening. This happens several nights in a row, until the tea master has the aroma balance just right. At the end, the tea is refired to dry off any flower moisture imparted to the leaf. This is why some jasmines can have a toasty finish.

A full-flavoured cup with a touch of smokiness. Recreate the famous Moroccan mint tea just by adding spearmint.
From: 11.95

Gunpowder is a classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. As the name implies, Gunpowder tea is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name.

Gunpowder is a very famous tea, inside and outside of China. Gunpowder is widely consumed throughout the Middle East, often blended with fresh mint and sugar. In China, this tea is called Green Pearl tea; the tight roll of the leaves helps retain flavour and aroma for much longer than many other greens. A delicate shine on the pellets indicate the tea is quite fresh.

Formosa, meaning ‘beautiful island’, is what Dutch traders called Taiwan. The teas grown here, mainly north of Taipei, continue to be called as such. Tea can be harvested up to six times a year here, although the high mountain teas may be only twice a year. Oolong tea had been a very important export for the island until the 1980’s, when tea growers turned their focus to native oolong enthusiasts. Today, oolong tea is mainly produced for tea lovers in Taiwan, and the rarest, most prized lots are extremely difficult to find in the West. Tea culture is so alive and well in Taiwan, annual competitions are held amongst tea growing districts to reward the most outstanding oolongs each year. Gold medal winning oolongs are some of the most expensive in the world.

This second flush tea with its golden liquor, celebrates the highly-regarded Sungma Estate in the Darjeeling region. A highly aromatic tea with a spice and muscat grape aroma. It never disappoints. Serve with milk.
From: 14.95

Darjeeling Sungma Muscatel is a second flush black tea from the famous Darjeeling region of India. Darjeeling tea is treasured for its rich golden liquor and distinctive muscatel (a type of grape) flavour. This tea scores high on both counts. Bright and aromatic, floral muscat grape aroma with notes of warm spice and sugary squash. Plush, tangy mouthfeel with a sweet finish and balanced astringency. This excellent summer harvest (second flush) of Darjeeling black tea comes from the highly regarded Sungma Estate. Darjeeling is a town situated along the slopes of the beautiful, towering Himalayas. The town, and the tea plantations that stretch around it, are often enveloped in mist. This unique climate, along with the region’s loamy soil, help produce one of the most unique and distinctive teas in the world. These altitudes place significant strain on the bushes, so they grow more slowly and have more time to develop flavour. The leaves are also more fragile, so they oxidize and dry up at different rates during production. That’s why Darjeeling tea always ‘looks like autumn’ – brown, gold, green. No one else in the world has tea that tastes quite like authentic Darjeeling.

This is the authentic Masala Chai Tea! A much-loved Indian tea combines Ceylon black tea with warm spices. This is the closest you can get to the original Indian Chai. Add hot milk and demarera sugar for a sweet indulgent chai!
